The Flinn Scholarship

The Flinn Scholarship isn’t about what you get. It’s about who you become and the impact you make. With the world-class education made possible by the Flinn Scholarship, you can become an agent of discovery, creativity and leadership who will make a difference.  

The Flinn Scholarshipvalued at more than $130,000covers tuition, fees, housing, and meals at one of Arizona’s public universities, plus study abroad. Each year, about 20 top Arizona high-school seniors are chosen to learn from amazing faculty, business leaders, and civic innovators and join a vibrant, eclectic communityincluding a powerful alumni network. 

What’s the Flinn Scholar blueprint? There is none. Scholars emerge from throughout Arizona and become leaders in every discipline you can imagine.

Meet the Flinn Scholars Class of 2024

The 2024 Flinn Scholarship has been awarded to 20 Arizona high-school seniors who will attend in-state universities with merit awards providing each of them a full ride.

Members of the Flinn Scholars Class of 2024 will receive a comprehensive scholarship package valued over four years at more than $130,000, including the cost of tuition, fees, housing, meals, and at least two study-abroad experiences.

The 39th class of Flinn Scholars, representing 17 high schools, will study alongside Scholars currently attending the honors colleges at Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Arizona. [Read more]

Outgoing Flinn Scholars to pursue graduate studies and careers as new alumni

The outgoing class of Flinn Scholars, which entered the program at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, has made the most of its undergraduate experience over the past four years.

The Scholars, who attended Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Arizona, traveled to France for a group seminar—a longtime component of the Flinn Scholars Program—were honored with university and community awards, and have now chosen paths of study and work near home in Arizona and around the world, from Los Angeles to London to Japan. The outgoing Flinn Scholars, most representing the Class of 2020, were active on their university campuses and in the larger community as interns, volunteers at nonprofit organizations, and even a youth basketball coach. Arizona teachers, counselors, mentors honored by 2024 Flinn Scholars

Jennifer Orozco Torres in 2017 was finishing up fifth grade at Lineweaver Elementary School in Tucson. Her teacher was Lourdes De Leon. Seven years later, the Class of 2024 Flinn Scholar selected De Leon as her “Distinguished Educator” for having the greatest impact in the classroom.

Orozco Torres was one of 20 Flinn Scholars from the Class of 2024, announced by the Flinn Foundation in late April, who honored their Distinguished Educator May 4 during the annual Flinn Scholarship Recognition Luncheon at The Scott Resort & Spa in Scottsdale for having a substantial impact on their studies and life pursuits. A Flinn Scholar reflects on a conversation with actress Laura Linney

“Having the opportunity to meet Laura Linney was an incredibly insightful one. To be entirely honest, I was not sure what to expect walking into the meeting room considering this was my first Arizona State University Centennial Lecture. The only thing that I knew going in was the Flinn Scholars would be having a private small-group discussion with an incredibly celebrated and well-known actress. The idea itself was surreal; I never expected to interact so closely with someone so esteemed in their field.”

Flinn Scholars

Experience new cultures with Flinn Scholar study abroad

One hallmark of the Flinn Scholarship is two funded study-abroad experiences—a group summer seminar after freshman year and a destination chosen by the Flinn Scholar.

The summer seminar allows Scholars to deeply experience other cultures in both urban and rural settings, which have ranged from Hungary and Romania to China and France and most recently in 2023, Finland. “The Finnish Experiment: Exploring Finnish and American Societies Through a Comparative Lens” examined Finland’s educational system in a comparative context to the American K-12 system.

The time abroad strengthens community and prepares each Flinn Scholar for their individual study-abroad experience, which can range from a summer to a semester to a year. [Read more]
