Full Story:
Northern Arizona University has received a $2.5 million federal grant for the construction of the Applied Research and Development Building (ARD). The building will serve permanent home of the Northern Arizona Technology and Business Incubator (NATBI), a non-profit program that helps new and existing small businesses grow.
Consistent with NAU's environmental inclination, the ARD building is being designed to meet the standards of a platinum rating (highest rating), according to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Building Council. When finished, it will bring much of the university and community research together under one roof, and provide wet- and dry-lab space for commercial use. It is scheduled for occupancy in 2006.
The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Develop Administration.
"Not only will this grant help to provide NAU with state-of-the art space in a brand new green building, it will also help to meet the goals of NATBI's long range strategic plan, which includes a permanent space on campus to meet the needs of start-up companies in the greater Flagstaff area and facilitate technology transfer out of the university," said Stephanie McKinney, president and CEO of the Greater Flagstaff Economic Council.
