Arizona State University announced today the creation of a new organization that will be responsible for the university's technology-transfer efforts. Arizona Technology Enterprises aims to make faster and more flexible the process of taking new technology from the university's research labs to the marketplace.

The new entity will serve as a limited liability company operating as a subsidiary of the not-for-profit ASU Foundation. ASU president Michael Crow said it reflects the university's progression as a "nimble, fast-paced, and responsive entrepreneurial organization." One of its advantages will be the opportunity to hold equity in exchange for licenses.

The university also announced the appointment of Peter Slate as its chief executive officer. Slate is a former director of global technology outlicensing for Baxter International, a major biomedical company based in Chicago. Slate will begin his new assignment on April 1.
