Full Story:

Arizona State University has named Jonathan Fink the Julie A. Wrigley director of its Global Institute of Sustainability (GIOS), as well as chief sustainability officer, a new position within the office of the president.

Fink, who has served as the university's vice president for research and economic affairs for the past 10 years, will split his faculty appointment between the School of Sustainability and the School of Earth and Space Exploration.

Fink takes the place of Charles Redman, the first Wrigley director of GIOS, who will continue as director of the new School of Sustainability.

In his new role as chief sustainability officer, Fink will oversee GIOS research programs, educational programs at the School of Sustainability, and the integration of sustainability activities across all of ASU. He will also work to ensure that ASU practices sustainable business operations.

"I have long been committed to research and policies that will help sustain environmental quality," Fink said.

"Working to achieve a more balanced approach to the growth of cities, one that simultaneously takes into account the needs of society, the economy, and the surrounding ecosystem, is one of the most exciting challenges I can imagine pursuing."
