ASU plant-vaccine researcher cited in Time magazine

Dr. Charles Arntzen, an Arizona State University biologist, was honored in the November, 24 edition of Time magazine in a special section honoring the best inventions of 2002. Arntzen earned the distinction for his efforts to fight disease in Third-World nations by delivering vaccines through tomato juice. The unorthodox delivery system would make it practical and affordable for impoverished nations to grow their own plant-derived vaccines.

Arntzen is the founding director of the Arizona Biomedical Institute and the Florence Ely Endowed Chair.
